A connection to the Health Information Exchange (HIE) will allow physicians and other providers to have medical information about their patients, for purposes of treatment, sent directly into their electronic health records (EHR) system. In addition, providers will be able to search for results on their patients from the full community record housed in the HIE. Through information delivered directly to EHR systems and the query ability of the community record, providers will be able to better assess their patients' medical history. This will help providers offer improved care quality and reduce the costs associated with duplicative tests and treatments.

Providers have restrictions imposed by law on the records that they can access through the Atlantic Coast HIE. Further, Providers are only allowed to obtain Protected Health Information through the HIE for the purpose of treating the patient.

Providers interested in joining the Atlantic Coast HIE should read the Overview of HIE Shared Medical Information. It contains a detailed description of the health information that is included. For providers who have an EHR system, Memorial Healthcare System may be able to help facilitate an electronic connection to the Atlantic Coast HIE. If you are a provider who does not currently operate an EHR system in your office, you may contact our Physician Relations division at 954-265-0903 to inquire on participating in our EHR subsidized program.

Members of Memorial's medical staff, can visit the MHS Physician Portal for information about the subsidized EHR system offerings for which medical staff members may be eligible.

Any physician needing more information may also contact the Physician Relations division at 954-265-0903.
